Buddy Walk

This was our first year attending the Buddy Walk and I'm so glad we were able to go. I never even knew what the Buddy Walk was a few years ago but now I am so proud that we were able to be a part of it. The Buddy Walk was established in 1995 by the National Down Syndrome Society to celebrate Down syndrome Awareness Month in October and to promote acceptance and inclusion of people with Down syndrome. There were more than 250 walks around the U.S. this year. I love the chance that we have to meet with other families, raise money for the UDSF and have fun together.

Easton had a soccer game in the morning so we missed the actual "walk" and Rachel Coleman from "Signing Time" but at least we made it for lunch and got to do all the fun activities. When we told Elle and Easton that we were going to the Buddy Walk and that it had a bounce house, a dunking booth, cotton candy and snow cones, they thought we were joking. Easton said, "Seriously?" We said yes and they both cheered. (Of course, Jayne joined in cheering too.) Elle asked what the Buddy Walk is and when I told her that it was for people with Down Syndrome and their families and friends, she said, "Thank you Jayne! I'm so glad you are my sister!" Elle and Easton love all the fun activities they get to be a part of because of Jayne. We had a great time at the Buddy Walk and loved seeing all our new friends we have made since becoming part of the "club."
